Alfred's LIFE Story
After intense therapies and long term care, Alfred is now doing the things he loves again. Alfred suffered a heart attack and severe stroke, at age 57, which left him in a coma for 3 months and 8 days. After he woke up, his mobility was severely limited. He needed intense therapies and long term help while staying in several places and enduring multiple operations on his arms and hands.

His son heard about Community LIFE and enrolled him. When he started he could stand for only 3 seconds and not take any steps. Now, in less than a year, he stands for 5 minutes and takes up to 16 steps!

They have also taught Alfred the use of special cups and spoons which allow him to feed himself. He hopes to use regular utensils again soon. For now, someone from Community LIFE arrives early to prepare him for the van ride to the center for his therapy. Someday, he hopes to be able to get himself up and ready on his own every morning.

Alfred has great memories of his family farm and his 4 children, his fishing trips and playing sports, now these memories are becoming goals and, hopefully, a reality.

Alfred says, "I've never met a group of people so nice, in one place and at one time, it's amazing."
